Our Holiday

Postby kathy on 24 Jul 2008 07:32

we wwent to Rhodes a few years ago ....i cannot say i enjoyed it very much .. it was the hottest year they had had for a long time ,112 in the shade!!!! Nothing to do with the place or the people ..
Rays holidays were set he could not change them , he was in the fire brigade...because we don,t usually go abroad in the peak times..
Anyway we stayed at the ""Filerimos" complex..nice place ..
I think it was in Trianda ....i quite liked the little village not far from there . Kremasti ...
We didn,t venture far at all because of the relentless heat .. We went into rhodes old town which i enjoyed ..
I have always promised myself i will return to Rhodes because my sisters tell me it is a lovely place
has anyone else been there ??

I visited Rhodes last year, rented a little villa on the outskirts of Salakos it’s almost a land that time forgot - famous for its walnuts and handmade wooden chairs. The village is set at the bottom of Elijah Mountain. The area has got a very good water supply so it is heavily populated with trees hence masses of shady spots to sit in the heat of the day. If have patience wander into the woodland, find a shady spot, wait and you might see a deer or two, rather like sitting in the New Forest where I live.
In my opinion if you ever visit avoid July/August the Meltemi winds will draw windsurfers from all over the world to Prassonissi beach and the surfers will use Salakos for accommodation.
Other than that is well worth a visit.
