Acharavi

Acharavi BeachAcharavi has long been classed as one of the top resorts on Corfu, it is situated on the northern tip of Corfu. About 40 km from the Airport and Corfu Town, the journey takes around an hour. The scenery on the journey is stunning you will pass by mountains and quaint old villages. From Acharavi you can see the neighbouring resort of Roda, the island of Erikoussa, the stunning mountains of Albania and then the nearby resort of Almyros.

The resort comprises of about 8 roads which all end at the beach, the resort is famous for its 5 kms of safe sand and shingle beach. Its especially suitable for families with children as the beach gently shelves into the sea for about 50 metres and there are also sun loungers and brollies for the sun worshippers to (bake) I mean bask in the sun. The beaches are clean and are swept regularly. There are ample bins placed along the edges of the sand for rubbish. The Sun-beds are available for hire for a small charge. Just choose your beds and umbrellas and someone will appear to take the hire fee. There are 2 lifeguards based on the Acharavi beach and a system of coloured flags are used to inform you of whether the sea is safe enough to swim in. Acharavi beach is a safe place to swim due to it's shallow waters but strong currenets can appear quite quickly so do take note of the colour of the flag flying.

The main road is littered with bars, resaurants, gift shops and supermarkets. Eating out is always a good experience in Acharavi due to the huge chose of places to eat both English and authentic Greek. Theres a roundabout in the centre of Acharavi called 'the Pump' as this was where the village water pump was situated today there is a restaurant in its place called the Pumphouse. A road leads from the roundabout to the 'old' village of Acharavi, its often missed but well worth a look. A bonus for children in the resort is the HYDROPOLIS, a water park on the edge of the town.

Acharavi is a busy resort offering a wide range of accommodation and facilities. Its rapidly becoming the North's capital. Many tour operators provide reasonable cost package holidays to the area, many visitors love the area so much they return year after year, some have had the good fortune to move there permanently. As so many Brits settle in the resort Acharavi's shops are well stocked with international branded goods as well as greek. You won't have to use valuable luggage space bringing items from home. They even stock a variety of machines, sprays and creams to keep those peskie mosquitoes at bay. In Acharavi you won't have trouble finding a place to eat, but you will choosing. All nationalities are catered for British, Chinese, Indian, Italian and not forgetting Greece. It is said you can dine out in Acharavi for weeks and never dine at the same place twice. Bars are also plentily available, whether you won't a quiet drink or a lively bar playing the latest chart toppers you will find it. However its not 'lager-lout' land. Bars and hotels (and you welcome in Greece even if your not a guest, that also includes use of pools though they do expect you to buy drinks from the bar) provide karaoke, bingo, quiz nites and Greek nights (not to be missed). You can book an excursion for a Traditional Greek Night near Corfu Town book through a local agent.Acharavi

Roda beach is a 25 minute walk away (west) and offers similar facilities as in Acharavi. To the East (about 2km) is the resort of Almyros. A largeportion of this beach is sand-stone - a rocky substance and can be quite slippery Almyros tends to be a much quieter beach and is often used by locals. The resort is developing and there are a small number of good restaurants and tavernas to choose from.
