Mastihari

MastihariMastihari is the beach and port closest to the Airport, approx 21km from Kos Town. Due to its closeness to the airport it’s developed very quickly and continues to expand.

Its beautiful flat white sand beach has become a honey pot to the package industry. Unfortunately for most of the season you don’t get to see the sand just edge to edge sun beds, however this is a fantastic area for water sports. Being on the windy side of the Island windsurfing is the most popular. But close to the beach there are also Basketball courts and a children’s playground.

Behind the beach there’s a long row of bars and cafes, and beyond these there is a neatly laid out grid of shops quite a lot selling the usual tourist tat unfortunately.
With the vast array of different places to eat getting an English style breakfast is no problem. However the British visitor will have to share this resort, it’s the most popular with the Germans.

If you want a little more from your holiday than lying on the beach take a walk to the western end where you’ll find a 5th C. Christian basilica, some of the mosaics are still discernable.

Beyond the power station there are many other paths, which lead to quiet sandy coves. Be careful when venturing into the water thou the underwater rocks can be very sharp. So always make sure you have someone with you just encase.Mastihari

The port is always full of fishermen, great to watch when you’re having your morning coffee in one of the cafés; the fishermen provide the local tavernas with freshly caught fish or Octopus which is often on the evening menu in the local tavernas, delicious.

If you become bored with the hustle and bustle of the resort why not catch a ferry for a day trip to the Isles of Pserimos or Kalymnos.

Kos has an excellent Bus service which enable you to visit Kos town or any other part of the island.

As with the rest of Kos, Mastihari holds its own celebrations for the many Saints, the most popular event for visitors is the Annual Wine Festival. What more could you want great local wine, food, music and dancing.

This area is probably most suited to families with young to middle teen children, but with so many different package deals available there’ll be something to suit every pocket.
