BENITSES - SHINGLE/SAND - BLUE FLAG - CAUTION - PEOPLE USE PLATFORMS AND JETTIES TO JUMP INTO THE WATER Ideal for families or couples. Transfer time 40 minutes (coach), 20 minutes (taxi). Situated on the east coast, facing the Ipiros area of the Greek mainland, Benitses is backed by rolling green hills. It was formerly a simple fishing village and fishermen still set out in small caiques from the harbour. Many old village houses remain, usually converted to restaurants or apartments.
The beaches are mostly of rough shingle with a little sand at the water's edge and there are swimming platforms and jetties. The area offers a wide choice of water sports; para-gliding, parascending, water-skiing, jet-skiing, pedaloes and fun rides. The latter include ring-boats and aqua-bananas. There are also speedboats for hire. Accommodation mostly consists of basic B&Bs together with some self-catering apartments. There are also some hotels. You will find there are more fast-food joints than restaurants in the area. |
