Agios Fokas

Agios FokasAghios Fokas is approx 8km from Kos Town on the south-eastern coast. This is the perfect place if you’re an early riser has it has some of the most beautiful sunrises on the Island. However Aghios Fokas is more man made than old Kos village with it being dominated by a huge Club Med complex, ideal if you like you’re holidays more structured though.

It only has a few year round residents so you won’t find much in the way of amenities. There are one or two shops and a few taverna’s and restaurants. You will find a few more on the road into Kos Town. This aside the resort is developing and does have an excellent bus service to Kos Town one running every 15 minutes were a world of shopping awaits you.

The sea around this side of coast is very deep so as become very popular with wind surfers. The visitor also benefits by the close proximity to Nissyros volcano it means not only the beach at Aghios being a combination of white sandy pebbles one side and black sandy pebbles the other. But the water temperatures are exceptionally high ranging from 40-47 ºC (104 -117 ºF). The high calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium ion and chlorine and sulphur anion concentrations here also extend to Embros thermes two miles up the road. These springs were discovered by the Italian archaeologist Luciano Laurenzi in 1934 and have ever since offered relief to people suffering from rheumatics, arthritis and gynaecological problems.

The beach is well organized with sunbeds and brollies and there are a few snack bars to buy refreshment's while you get a tan and watch the windsurfers wiz by on the amazing panoramic horizon.

Agios Fokas

There is archaeological evidence that the area had been inhabited since prehistoric times. But all you will spot is the odd field with a few stones or pillars, however what Aghios doesn’t offer the rest of Kos will make up for.

As I have said the public bus service is good and there are always taxis, car/motorbike hire and the ever popular bicycle to explore the rest of Kos.

Except for the young party animal, this area will be suitable for all. Enjoy.
